J’ai participé à la manifestation contre le service national universel dimanche 30 avril 2023 à Paris. Des syndicats de travailleurs étaient présents (CGT, CNT, FSU, SUD), ainsi que des syndicats étudiants (Union Étudiante, SUD étudiant), plusieurs organisations politiques (NPA, Révolution Permanente, LFI, EELV, Union Communiste Libertaire, POID, …) et d’autres organisations (Fédération des jeunes révolutionnaires, Attac, Libres Penseurs, …).	I participated to the demonstration against the universal national service Sunday, April, 30th, 2023 in Paris. Some trade unions were present (CGT, CNT, FSU, SUD), some student unions (Student Union, SUD student), several political organizations (NPA, Permanent Revolution, LFI, EELV, Communist Libertarian Union, POID, etc…) and some other organizations (Federation of young revolutionaries, Attac, Free Thinkers, …).
Le service national universel est en réalité une sorte de service militaire sans maniement d’arme d’une durée d’un mois. Les deux premières semaines sont consacrées au « séjour de cohésion » qui, contrairement au vocabulaire employé par le gouvernement, n’a rien à voir avec la citoyenneté et l’engagement. Il s’agit de soumission pure et simple, le programme est prévu à la minute près et en cas d’incident, les jeunes se voient obligés de faire des pompes. Il s’agit bien là d’un cadre militaire comprenant l’obligation de chanter la Marseillaise, la cérémonie de lever des couleurs avec le salut au drapeau et un personnel encadrant partiellement composé de militaires. Il n’y a ni engagement ni volontariat puisque le projet du président de la République est de rendre le service national universel obligatoire, c’est l’exact opposé du volontariat. De plus, austérité oblige, vu le peu d’encadrants, des accidents sont à craindre et sont déjà survenus. Cerise sur le gâteau, le coût du dispositif avoisine un milliard et demi d’euros sur le budget destiné à la jeunesse.	Actually, the universal national service is a kind of military service without the handling of weapons that lasts one month. The first two weeks are devoted to the « cohesion stay » which, contrary to the vocabulary used by the government, has nothing to do with citizenship and commitment. It’s pure and simple submission, the program is planned to the minute and in case of an incident, young people are forced to do push-ups. This is indeed a military framework including the obligation to sing the Marseillaise, the ceremony of raising colors with the salute to the flag and a supervised staff partially composed of soldiers. There is neither commitment nor volunteering since the President of the Republic’s project is to drive the universal national service mandatory, it’s the exact opposite of volunteering. In addition, austerity obliges, given the few supervisors, accidents are to be feared and already happened. The gilt on the gingerbread, the cost of the scheme is around one and a half billion euros from the youth budget.
Ensuite, après le séjour de sujétion des jeunes citoyens, ils doivent effectuer 84 heures étalées sur deux semaines de mission d’intérêt général d’une rémunération proche de celle du service civique soit environ deux fois moins que le salaire minimum. Ainsi, ce dispositif s’inscrit dans la lignée du contrat d’insertion professionnelle, du Contrat Première Embauche, des stages, de l’alternance et de l’apprentissage. Il s’agit encore une fois de transformer les jeunes en chair à canon, chair à matraque (il est possible de faire une mission dans un corps en uniforme) et surtout en chair à patron. J’estime que notre jeunesse mérite bien mieux qu’être traité comme une population à dresser, à redresser, à recadrer, à soumettre, à brader et à endoctriner. Elle est surtout rebelle, elle se défend et je lui souhaite de ne pas sombrer dans un patriotisme nucléaire militariste mortifère. It’s once again a question of transforming young people into cannon fodder, baton fodder (it’s possible to do a mission in a uniformed body) and especially into boss fodder. I believe that our youth deserve much better than to be treated as a population to be trained, straightened out, reframed, subjugated, sold out and indoctrinated. Above all, it’s rebellious, it defends itself and I wish it not to sink into a deadly militarist nuclear patriotism.
P.S : Je ne partage pas les prises de position de Sophie Binet au sujet de la professionnalisation de l’enseignement supérieur à l’époque du mouvement contre le Contrat Première Embauche lorsqu’elle était membre de l’Union Nationale des Étudiants Français au sein de la Tendance Majorité Nationale. Je suis favorable à une société sans classe ni état ni monnaie, à la propriété commune des moyens de production, à l’interdiction des stages et à la fin de la professionnalisation de l’enseignement supérieur.	P.S: I don’t share Sophie Binet’s position on the vocationalization of higher education at the time of the movement against the First Employment Contract when she was a member of the National Union of French Students within the National Majority Tendency. I’m in favour of a classless, stateless and moneyless society, common ownership of the means of production, a ban on internships and the end to the vocationalization of higher education.
