Introduction	Introduction
Je pris l’avion pour la Crète au départ de l’aéroport d’Orly près de Paris lundi 1er août 2022. Mon séjour était organisé par l’UCPA, je mentionne ce détail à titre informatif et cela ne m’empêche pas d’être très critique comme à mon habitude. Je vais essayer de vous faire part de mon ressenti et de vous donner quelques tuyaux, au cas où vous envisageriez d’y partir en vacances à votre tour. Enfin, je vous montrerai mes plus belles photos, elles ne sont pas géolocalisées mais je vous donne quelques indications de sorte que vous puissiez facilement retrouver les lieux en question.	I flew to the Crete from the Orly Airport near Paris Monday August 1st 2022. My stay was organized by the UCPA, I mention this detail for information purposes and it doesn’t prevent me from being very critical as is my habit. I’m going to try to share my feelings with you and to give you some tips in case if you consider to go here on holiday in your turn. Finally, I will show you my best photos, they aren’t geotagged but I give you some indications so that you can easily find the places in question.

Jour 1 : Vol vers Héraklion	Day 1: Fly to Heraklion
J’arrivai à l’aéroport d’Orly avec une bonne heure d’avance sur l’horaire recommandé par l’UCPA (soit plus de 3 heures et demi avant le décolage) mais la dépose des bagages me prit environ deux heures malgré le pré-enregistrement en ligne et l’impression de l’étiquette bagage via une borne.	I arrived at the Orly airport a good hour ahead of the time recommended by UCPA (more than 3 hours and a half before the takeoff) but dropping off my luggage took me about two hours despite the online pre-check-in and the printing of the luggage tag via a kiosk.
Le décolage eut lieu vers 14h35 comme prévu.	The takeoff happened around 14:35 as planned.
Je pus apercevoir le lac Léman pendant le vol.	I could see the Lake Geneva during the flight.
Une fois arrivé à Héraklion, j’aperçus la guide au bout d’une dizaine de minutes et je rejoignis mon groupe avec lequel je pris le car vers le plateau du Lassithi, haute plaine située à 820 mètres d’altitude, au cœur du massif montagneux Dikti. Nous partîmes avec un peu de retard à cause d’un bagage non distribué.	Once arrived in Heraklion, I saw the guide after about ten minutes and I joined my group with which I took the bus towards the plateau of Lassithi, high plain situated at 820 meters of altitude, in the heart of the Dikti mountain range. We left with a little delay because of an undelivered luggage.
Nous mangeâmes au restaurant Kronio une salade grecque accompagnée de spécialités à base de fromage et d’épinards, l’incontournable moussaka et enfin ce dessert légèrement feuilleté au miel et au noix avec une boule de glace au yaourt.	We ate at the Kronio restaurant a Greek salad with cheese and spinach specialties, the inevitable moussaka and finally this lightly flaky honey and walnut dessert with a scoop of yogurt ice cream.
Ensuite, nous nous installâmes dans l’hôtel Argoulias à Tzermiado, village du nord du plateau. Je disposais d’une grande chambre confortable pour moi tout seul pour les deux premières nuits.	Afterwards, we moved to the Argoulias hotel in Tzermiado, village in the north of the plateau. I had a large and comfortable room all for myself for the two first night.
Jour 2 : Sommet du Karfi	Day 2: Karfi summit
J’aperçus une montgolfière dans le ciel au petit matin en sortant de ma chambre.	I saw a hot-air balloon in the way in the early morning when I left my room.
J’avais une très belle vue en prenant mon petit déjeuner sur la terasse de l’hôtel Argoulias.	I had a beautiful view while having my breakfast on the terrace of the Argoulias hotel.
La randonnée (10 kilomètres, 3 heures et demi, dénivelée + 300 mètres, – 300 mètres) débuta depuis l’hôtel en direction de l’ouest, nous empruntâmes un premier sentier qui nous mena au col de Papoura à 960 mètres d’altitude où se trouvent des vestiges d’un premier site minoen. Nous poursuivâmes notre randonnée en suivant la crête vers le nord-est. Nous trouvâmes un lieu à l’ombre pour prendre notre pique-nique à proximité du sommet situé à 1120 mètres d’altitude. Un peu plus loin, nous avions une vue plongeante vers la plaine de Malia avant d’atteindre les vestiges d’un second site minoen nommé Setti. Nous descendîmes par un vallon plus à l’est après avoir fait un détour par une chapelle dominant tout le plateau du Lassithi.	The hike (10 km, 3.5 hours, altitude difference + 300 meters, – 300 meters) started from the hotel in the western direction, we took a first path which led us to the Papoura pass at 960 meters altitude where there are remains of an early Minoan site. We continued our hike following the ridge to the northeast. We found a shady place to have our picnic near the summit at 1120 meters. A little further on, we had a view down to the plain of Malia before reaching the remains of a second Minoan site called Setti. We descended through a valley to the east after a detour to a chapel overlooking the entire Lassithi plateau.
Nous eûmes le temps de visiter la grotte de Trapeza à proximité de Tzermiado avant de prendre un verre dans un bar.	We had some time to visit the Trapeza cave near Tzermiado before having a drink in a bar.
Le dîner fut pris dans le restaurant Kronio qui nous régala une fois encore avec le tarama, le caviar d’aubergine, la feta pimentée, le poulpe, les pois cassés, le tadziki, les betteraves rouges, du paleron de bœuf accompagné de légumes… et enfin un dessert composé de semoule à la vanille avec un zeste d’orange.	The dinner was taken in the Kronio restaurant which enjoyed us once again with the tarama, the eggplant caviar, the spicy feta, the octopus, the split peas, the tadziki, the red beets, some beef chuck with some vegetables… and finally a dessert composed of vanilla semolina with some orange zest.
Jour 3 : Traversée vers Kritsa	Day 3: Crossing to Kritsa
Nous fîmes un bref trajet de l’hôtel jusqu’au début de la randonnée dans une camionnette, la guide et moi étions assis dans la cabine à l’avant et les autres randonneurs étaient assis dans l’espace ouvert à l’arrière. Cette randonnée (20 kilomètres, 6 heures de marche, dénivelée + 400 mètres, – 920 mètres) fut plus éprouvante que la précédente, elle démarra sur un sentier à l’extrêmité est du plateau en direction de l’est. Après 280 mètres de montée, nous arrivâmes sur le plateau de Katharo à 1100 mètres d’altitude puis nous atteignîmes le col d’Avdeliakós après un peu plus de 100 mètres de montée.	We had a short ride from the hotel to the start of the hike in a pickup, the guide and I sat in the front cabin and the other hikers sat in the open space in the back. This hike (20 kilometers, 6 hours walking, altitude difference + 400 meters, – 920 meters) was more challenging than the previous one, it started on a trail at the eastern end of the plateau heading east. After 280 meters of ascent, we reached the Katharo plateau at 1100 meters above sea level and we reached the Avdeliakós pass after a little more than 100 meters of ascent.
Nous déjeunâmes dans la taverne traditionnelle Etepeoe.	We had lunch in the Etepeoe traditional tavern.
Nous descendîmes jusqu’au village de Kritsa puis nous prîmes le bus pour Agios Nikolaos en bord de mer.	We went down to the village of Kritsa and then, we took the bus to Agios Nikolaos by the sea.
Nous dinâmes dans un restaurant de poissons, le loup de mer et les sardines grillées me sustentèrent efficacement. Nous passâmes la nuit à l’hôtel Percola.	We had dinner in a fish restaurant, the sea bass and the grilled sardines satisfied me efficiently. We spent the night at the Percola hotel.

J’en profitai pour voir une statue d’Europa (mère du roi Minos) et la sculpture de la corne d’Amalthée (Zeus qui jouait avec Amalthée aurait accidentellement cassé sa corne et l’aurait transformée en symbole d’abondance en signe de gratitude).	I took the opportunity to see a statue of Europa (mother of King Minos) and the sculpture of Amalthea’s Horn (Zeus who was playing with Amalthea would have accidentally broken his horn and transformed it into a symbol of abundance as a sign of gratitude).
Jour 4 : Randonnée au départ de Kavousi	Day 4: Hiking from Kavousi
Je pris quelques photos avant de prendre le petit déjeuner à l’hôtel Percola.	I took some picture before having a breakfast at the Percola hotel.

Ensuite, nous prîmes le taxi puis le bus pour atteindre le lieu du début de la randonnée (4 heures et demi de marche, dénivelée + 500 mètres, – 500 mètres) vers le site minoen de Kastro qui domine l’isthme de Lerapetra. Nous fîmes une jolie photo de groupe près d’un très vieil olivier à Kavousi. Après avoir raté le bus régulier pour Sitia, la plus importante ville de Crète orientale, nous dûmes prendre le taxi et nous fûmes répartis dans trois hôtels dont l’hôtel Itanos pour les plus chanceux et l’hôtel El Greco un peu plus loin.	Then, we took a taxi and then a bus to reach the starting point of the hike (4,5 hours walking, altitude difference + 500 meters, – 500 meters) to the Minoan site of Kastro which dominates the isthmus of Lerapetra. We took a nice group photo near a very old olive tree in Kavousi. After missing the regular bus to Sitia, the most important city in eastern Crete, we had to take a taxi and we were split into three hotels, the Itanos hotel for the lucky ones and the El Greco hotel a little further on.
Nous mangeâmes au restaurant puis nous prîmes un dernier verre au bar sur le toit de l’hôtel Itanos.	We ate at the restaurant and then we had a drink at the rooftop bar of the Itanos hotel.
